Underlay is a key element in the flooring process for many reasons but most importantly because it will extend the life of your carpet by protecting it from wear and tear and improving your carpet appearance and retention. Underlay will also act as a thermal insulator, keeping your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Depending on its density and thickness, an underlay could help you reduce your energy bills by preventing heat loss via your floor.
