TIACS and Carpet One: A Partnership for Mental Health
Mental health is a fundamental aspect of our overall well-being. It shapes how we think, feel, and cope with life’s challenges. As we care for our physical health, tending to our mental health is essential.
However, many individuals face obstacles when accessing the necessary mental health services. This disparity in access can be attributed to various factors, including limited resources, lack of awareness, and the persistence of societal stigmas surrounding mental health.
Recognising the need to bridge this gap, Dan Allen and Ed Ross founded Trademutt. This social impact workwear brand aims to start a conversation about mental health among blue-collar workers by raising awareness on the issue.
Being carpenters themselves prior to shifting to social enterprise, the founders had first-hand experience of the pressures of the trade.
Dan and Ed soon realised that while starting a conversation among peers and loved ones about mental health is a great start, many may feel the need for further qualified assistance. However, accessing professional support can be difficult due to cost, referrals required, and physical location.
They decided to take their advocacy a step further and establish TIACS–from Trademutt’s brand message printed on their products “This is a Conversation Starter”.
TIACS offers free and confidential counselling and support via texts or calls to tradies, truckies, and rural and blue-collar workers facing mental health challenges.
The free mental health services are funded through the support of the TIACS Alliance, a collective of businesses sharing a common vision to support the blue-collar community.
The Alliance comprises Australia’s well-known brands and organisations as well as local and small businesses doing their part to make real change.
Since its inception, TIACS has supported over 17,000 clients in over 16,200 hours of conversation.
Our Partnership
At Carpet One, we are well aware of the challenges many individuals in the trade industry face – high levels of stress, pressure, and isolation – that can adversely affect their mental health and overall well-being.
As a cooperative of independent flooring retailers in Australia, we prioritise the well-being of our members and aim to provide them with the necessary support and resources to cope with these challenges.
We want also to show solidarity and gratitude to all the people who work hard to build, renovate and maintain our homes and workplaces.
That’s why Carpet One has joined the TIACS Alliance. As an Alliance member, we make annual contributions to the organisation to support its mission.
Recognising that Mental health support and access is an ongoing concern, Carpet One is committed to providing continuous support to TIACS initiatives for as long as needed.
